We offer a boys' High Performance Program with traveling teams that compete against elite teams throughout BC and the Western US. Our programs are built year round and are divided up into three development phases throughout the school year; Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each season has a distinct goal to work towards, such as a Tournament. Regardless of the developmental phase the players are in, all our teams focus on one belief: Long term success requires more practice time than game time. Based on many European Sport academies, we incorporate the following:
Players (left to right): Coach Obrigewitsch, Brody, Cove, Boden, Gurtahj, Taj, Smith, Noah, Matthew, Asher, Josh and Coach McGregor
Players (left to right): Liam, Dan, Cole, Xander, Corsen, Matthew, Wyatt, Marcus, Logan
Missing: Coaches Obrigewitsch, McGregor and Coach Herbert
Back Row - Players (left to right):
Raghav, Coach Herbert, Del, Gavin, Davin, Tushar, Torin, Coach DeMarinis
Front Row - Players (left to right):

Our U16 Boys team competed in 6 tournaments, including a trip to Portland and winning their age division at the FYBA Kelownafornia Classic.
Their weekly schedule included 2- 3 practices per week, and 2 weight/fitness sessions with Coach Obrigewitsch from Hoop Strength.
The team was coached by Jason Herbert, John McGregor and Nick Wall (absent in photo).
Our U18 Boys team was made up of a really talented mix of Grade 11&12 players. They competed in 5 tournaments, winning 3 and losing a tight battle in the Western Canadian Championships Semi-finals against the eventual champions. Their weekly schedule included 2- 3 practices per week, and 2 weight/fitness sessions with Coach Obrigewitsch from Hoop Strength.
The team was coached by Jason Herbert and assisted by Nathan Obrigewitsch.
In March, all of our athletes came together and did their pre-season physical testing with our partners at Prime Kelowna. Then the shutdown occurred. With so much uncertainty at the time, we all wondered when the season would resume. We felt for the kids and parents. None of us had envisioned our season beginning like this. At that moment, we asked ourselves, "how can we still continue to provide families a vehicle to learn skills, get stronger and create leadership with these young men?" This is what we came up.
Our March - May session included the following:
1.Each athlete received individual programs that focused on lower & upper body strength, skill development such as ball handling, finishing and shooting.
These programs were modified every 4-6 weeks.
2.Weekly zoom calls were established with a focus on staying connected, leadership development and Basketball IQ, which included offensive and defensive concepts.
3.We held monthly challenges and awarded prizes for consistency, improvement and leadership. As well, we had one in May that focused on teamwork where the kids worked out together in small group via zoom.
4.We had guest speakers such as Osvaldo Jeanty, who is the new CEBL Head coach of the Ottawa Blackjacks, former professional player and CIS Male player of the year who won 5 straight CIS (now U-Sport) championships at Carleton university. He talked our players about his journey from a small Ottawa high school to national prominence in the sport.
5.Lastly, we began small cohort group workouts 2x a week in May with Coach Brandt Fralick at Prime Physiotherapy. Once via Zoom and once in person.
With restrictions loosening a little, we reduced the number of Zoom calls in June and the kids were really bummed about that. LOL!
Our June - August sessions included the following:
1. A focus on developing speed and vertical jump training. Our athletes met up 3 times a week at Prime Physiotherapy & Performance with Coach Fralick. Whether it was at the beach, on the field or in the gym, their efforts paid off as every one of our athletes showed in an increase in their power output and vertical jump by 15-20% from their original test scores in March.
2.We gave new skill programs to each athlete and began holding two development sessions a week at City Park. These sessions focused on ball handling, finishing techniques and shooting. Whether it was within our sessions or wth their own programs, our athletes had the resources to get in hundreds of reps per week.
3.In July, we began our annual beach workouts at Gyro Beach where players focused on agility and speed workouts in small group cohorts. Although, the kids worked tirelessly on their footwork, the biggest reward we saw was the continuous accountability and leadership that was developed in holding everyone to a high standard of excellence.
4.We had Coach Emerson Murray come on our zoom call and talk to the athletes about his experience as a former NCAA Div.1 player. He shared valuable knowledge about his journey through the BC basketball scene to University. Later on, he came on a second time and held a workout via zoom.
5.Lastly, we held 2nd Annual Academy Awards dinner where athletes from both teams were recognized for their remarkable achievements from last Fall until now. Check out this year's award recipients below.
Thank you to Wilson Beck Insurance and Prime Physiotherapy & Performance for their continued support.
Over the course of two days, our athletes completed on-court and fitness evaluations at City Park. 30 players attended and eventually we had two groups of 12 for our U15 & U16 Teams.
Our teams were motivated to get back to playing and with us heading into Phase 3, regional games were slated to happen. Unfortunately, as we all witnessed, that change as the fall progressed.
Undeterred, our athletes went back to work in the gym with Coach Fralick twice a week focusing on core stability and overall strength. As players began to see their own progress, their enthusiasm increased and that led to great skill sessions on the court.
Both teams worked out at Immaculata Regional HS twice a week focusing on technical and tactical training, i.e. team systems. As restrictions increased, our competitive practices turned into skill development were we turned our attention to increasing shooting accuracy and individual skill development.
We are so proud of the boys that continued each week despite the threat of COVID exposures in our local schools. Their diligence about following protocol and staying in their bubbles allowed us to have a great fall season despite having our games cancelled in November.
Thank you to Wilson Beck Insurance, TransQ Sleep Care and Prime Physiotherapy & Performance for their continued support.
U14 Most Improved Award winner - Eli Ball

The spring season was capped off a successful run by both teams, who went a combined 7-2 at the Western Canadian Championships, finishing 2nd (U13) and 3rd (U14).
Our Fall team showed great perseverance and tenacity during our visit to the Olympic Richmond Oval at the Fall Drive Classic.
The Academy's first team plays tough against some really good competition in Spokane, Washington.
